When my kids were younger and I had something I really need them to listen to me say, I would tell them, “Look at me. LOOK AT ME… I have something to tell you.”
So today I am yelling “LOOK AT ME… I have something to tell you.” to you
Her Success Does Not Equal Your Failure
Think about the last time you heard that your friend, family member, or acquaintance was being recognized for an accomplishment. She just signed a book deal. He was asked to speak to a major audience. She is advancing in her business that she started after you started yours. Their blog post went viral or any other number of things that you had been daydreaming about.
What was you first gut reaction ? Was it to celebrate your friend? Did the question “why not me?'” pop in your head? Did your inner self-talk take over and call you a LOSER ?
It seems to be human nature to feel secretly distressed by other people’s success. After all it really could have been you. You could have done those things. It could have been you!
But it wasn’t.
Your heart sinks. You feel a little bit less than, maybe a little bit defeated and depressed.
But take a deep breathe. Flip the switch to turn off the negative talk. Because it just isn’t your turn. That doesn’t mean that your turn isn’t coming; it just wasn’t now.
If you continue to seek to glorify the name of God then your turn will come. A turn to use your creativity, share your writing, and find success. Right now it may feel like you are in the midst of a party that is crowded. You find yourself being pushed to the back of the room or out of the door. But that isn’t true. God see all that you are doing.
Today I am sharing more about selfish ambitions over at Deeper Waters Ministry in Day 5 of our Philippians study.
